Why no Universal Keyboard feature

I am curious why was the universal keyboard feature removed?
I found the feature very interesting and essential for some of my needs, and wanted to know what were the drawbacks/reasons that caused the removal of the feature. This could assist in guiding my thought process as well in the merits of the universal keyboard feature.

Quoting the developer upgrade guide-
From 2.3.2 to 2.3.3
The Universal Keyboard has been removed from the package. If the toolbar contains the 'UniversalKey' command the editor will warn that the command isn't known: you'll need to remove the command from your toolbar or create a plugin based on the code existing in the previous version.

Is there any reason why UniversalKey has been removed from v5.0??

there's no 5.0 at all, only 2.5 and the universal keyboard was removed as explained in 2.3.3 because it lacked proper license info.

there's a plugin that you can use at your own risk.
